BREAK FREE
Discover Your Leadership Signature

Believe me, dreams can come true. In fact, all dreams come true. But, to be true, dreams must be shared. To break free you need to do more than dream, you must learn to share your dreams.'
A little girl in a Calcutta slum shared her loaf of bread instead of hoarding it—and taught Debashis Chatterjee that every person can choose to be a leader in his or her own sphere.
Based on the need to find the key to truly effective leadership Break Free offers breakthrough perceptions and choices for you in your interactions with the people around you—at home and at the workplace. True leadership, says Chatterjee, is built on relationships; and relationships are formed when the distance between hearts and minds is bridged by a shared purpose. Bringing together the profound wisdom of the past and his own vision of the future, Chatterjee speaks directly to the reader's heart and mind, igniting hope, affirmation and inspiration.
This book will transform the way you view your world and your place in it, compelling you to find new perspectives and discover fresh insights.
Reviews:
"Debashis Chatterjee gave me his book 'Break Free: Discover Your Leadership Signature'.
Inside, with beautiful penmanship, he inscribed Robin-Break Free... You owe it to your own magnificence.'
Such powerful words for us to remember.
The imperative of 'breaking free' of our limiting beliefs and our false assumptions and our less than excellent behaviors.
So that our natural magnificence can get a glimpse of the light of this day."

THE CIRCLE OF LOVE

Undoubtly poetry lends magnificence to philosophical thought; conversely philosophy provides substance to versification. This holds true in the case of Chatterjee's "first book of fiction in free verse". The clichéd "West comes to East in quest of wisdom" has been treated rather skillfully by the poet. This is a story of interaction between the blonde Mariann and the Indian guru Ananda. It covers quite a few weighty philosophical concepts like time, space, desire etc. While the illustrations are evocative I am unable to grasp the significance of repeating certain passages in a scrawl, on opposite pages. This does not, however, detract from the merit of Chatterjee's work.
The Circle of Love embraces the eternal questions of life and death, woman and man, time and space, freedom and bondage, desire and intimacy in a manner that recreates in an Indian setting the magic and mysticism of that great classic of Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet. It is a conversation between Ananda, the mystic lover and Mariann the star-struck Bostonian who travels to Rishikesh in India in search of love. Written in lucid prose-poetry, this book is a glowing tribute to great mystical poets like Gibran and Tagore. In a world torn by territorial strife and religious rancour, this book is likely to find its niche in the hearts and minds of readers around the world.

LIGHT THE FIRE IN YOUR HEART
You can dare to lead

Love is central to leadership as delineated by Debashis Chatterjee. In Wisdom Tree's "Made to Lead", Colonel Karan Kharb, retired from
the army, writes of "effective Vedic ways to bring out the leader in you", while Professor Debashis Chatterjee of the Indian Institute
of Management, Lucknow, author of "Light the Fire in Your Heart" - a book whose subtitle reminds you "You can Dare to Lead!" - sees
spirituality as "an everyday affair" rather than an exalted state of mind; the title "We are the Greatest God" by Vijay Saxena, professor
at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, states his belief emphatically enough, and the message of the poetic work "Echoes of Love
from Heavens Above" by film-maker Mickey Nivelli is epitomised in the lines "Love helps people find the sacred line/that borders between
the human and divine".
Published by Full Circle, a company that describes itself as producing works that "nourish your soul", he says of his book, "Yes, it
is about spirituality and it is not. We are looking at spirituality as a way of evolving work places."
Although the book speaks of the practical aspects of leadership and takes examples from corporate life, Professor Chatterjee emphasises,
"It's not a management book," and recounts that when people wondered which shelf the bookstores should slot it in, he replied: "It will
go onto a bookshelf."

Refuting the current trend of mixing up a handsome appearance with internal qualities, he points out that people make the mistake of
thinking that leadership qualities increase proportionally with a person's height, weight and chest size. "Who brought down the Berlin
Wall?" he asks. "Who created the World Wide Web?" These are questions to which we cannot get accurate answers, yet they are testimony
to the fact that leadership is an essential part of every person's nature, explains the man who wishes to "bring home to him or her
(ordinary people) his own wisdom".
A product of a "very modest" upbringing in a small town, Debashis Chatterjee, who has been a Harvard
professor and interacted with leaders of world governments yet returned to India to settle because he is "very optimistic" about his
own country and describes his own wisdom as stemming primarily from encounters with great souls such as Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama
from whom he learnt "applied spirituality". The fire in the heart, believes this professor who also heads a Centre for Leadership and
Human Values, will be as important a catalyst for change as the prehistoric discovery of fire, and to make sure the possibility of
the discovery is open to many. The book is also available in Hindi as - (Chingaari Ka Chamatkaar)
